We invite you to a day of lively discussions, stimulating keynote addresses, and inspiring sessions.

The theme, Pilgrimage and the Evolution of Spiritual Tourism, pushes us to think about and beyond the edges of our current understandings and practices around pilgrimage. For example:
  • How is the notion of pilgrimage prompting us to re-conceptualize our understanding of spiritual tourism?
  •  How will integrating the current interest in pilgrimage into tourism initiatives challenge and re-invent current practice
  • What new research and practice frontiers lie ahead as we contemplate the next decade of pilgrimage tourism?

The Conference Organisers

Prof Dr The Spirituality Institute for Research and Education  was established in 2015 to contribute to the academic study of spirituality in higher education colleges, and promote the phenomenon of ‘spirituality and’.

The term ‘spirituality and’ refers to spirituality and healthcare, spirituality and tourism, spirituality and leadership, etc., which are all signs of a new spiritual consciousness across the globe.

The Department of Languages, Tourism, and Hospitality is part of the School of Humanities at Waterford Institute of Technology. The conference will take place in the Tourism and Leisure Education Building, a centre of excellence which is amongst the finest of its kind in Europe.
